So what is procrastination?
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. Sometimes, procrastination takes place until the "last minute" before a deadline.
Answer honestly: have you procrastinated recently?
If you answered 'yes', you're not alone – most of the population procrastinate on a regular basis with 26% considering themselves chronic procrastinators, simply unable to get things done.
Procrastination in business not only wastes time but it also causes missed opportunities and goals, so we've come up with three helpful tips to try when you find next yourself procrastinating:
Ask yourself why
Most procrastination happens for a reason and you train your brain to avoid it if you start to understand why it's happening. Are you procrastinating because you're worried about something? Have you set yourself a task that's too big? Are you attempting something you don't enjoy doing?
Break it down
Quite often procrastination strikes when the task or undertaking in front of us is too big or intimidating – we simply don't know where to start. If you're struggling with this try taking a few minutes to break the task down into smaller objectives that are easier to get started on and way less intimidating!
Delegate it
If you find yourself procrastinating because you find the task ahead of you mundane, boring or repetitive then get someone else to do it! With a small investment of time you can release yourself from the procrastination, leaving you free to work on something you'll enjoy.
